▲ This is a post for day-to-day interactions our characters might have that don't merit a log or inbox thread. They can range anywhere from "hey, our characters are neighbors, he probably sees Evy and waves when they pass in the hallway!" to "my character probably dropped some snacks off at Evy's place on Day 433!" Think of this as a permanent handwaved CR meme.

▲ Anything goes here! You can let me know hard and fast details or just suggest things that we can hash out together here.

▲ Anyone in asgardeventide is welcome to use this, whether or not our characters have interacted before in an actual thread. There are TONS of characters in Asgard, and it makes sense that they would have ran across each other at least occasionally. Don't be shy!

Evy's routines

▲ Evy lives in the Welcome House in Odin, room 108, with a horrible, huge fluffy black cat called Amewbis (Mewby for short). Mewby is a beautiful, dumb-as-a-post animal who loves to try to escape her room, so Odin residents might have seen him (and her chasing behind)!

▲ She teaches at the Albus Dumbledore Academy. If your character takes any of these classes, she is their teacher:

▸ Latin
▸ Ancient Greek
▸ Ancient Egyptian
▸ Ancient Egyptian Culture/History (must be at least 15)

Her class on ancient Egyptian culture and history includes a practical mummification lab, in which she and her students attempt mummification on toads from Gefion Park. She has, in the past, been findable there, killing toads to serve as test subjects.

▲ While she has level 3 firepower, she hasn't used it since she died in March in the school fire.

▲ In her spare time, Evy spends a good amount of time alone, but she also does like to spend time with friends. Don't expect her to hang around in the common room and wait for someone to show up, but she will gladly meet someone there to watch a film at a designated time.

▲ She's been learning to shoot and will occasionally be found in the Arena, practicing.

comments

evy, snape and drinking a little too much. both of them, that is.

It turns out that Professor Snape isn't really what you'd call a cheerful drunk. Evy supposes she could have predicted this, but it didn't occur to her before now to wonder whether his personality would change under the influence of alcohol. (Of course, perhaps it normally does--though she has difficulty picturing that--and this was just an unusual situation. She'd noticed him out of the corner of her eye earlier in the evening, having a heated conversation with a red-haired woman; she supposes that could have put him out of sorts.)

The fact that he's still gracing the public with his presence would be rather odd under normal circumstances, but considering that the gods locked them in the ballroom with the instructions to have a good time or else, she supposes trying to drink himself into a stupor might serve as the next best thing to leaving. It really would be best to leave him alone, in that case--but Evy's never been good at leaving well enough alone. Especially not when she's already had a bit more champagne than she probably should. (It's hard to keep track with champagne. It's so light and pleasant, and she's long since grown tired of dancing tonight.)

When she takes a seat next to him at the bar, he answers her greeting with a weary, slightly slurred, "To what do I owe this pleasure, Miss Carnahan?"

Evy frowns at him, taking the champagne flute the bartender offers her and having a sip before answering. Anyone can tell by the way he speaks that he doesn't think chatting with her is a pleasure at all--not at the moment, anyway--and she's not about to tolerate that sort of rudeness tonight. "You know, Professor, you probably wouldn't be sitting here in the corner if you didn't talk like that to women trying to make conversation with you."

The swiftness with which he moves is surprising--and a little frightening. Evy cringes back, certain that he's going to do something horrible, like shout or take a swing, or perhaps think up an especially nasty use for his Hel-given ability.

But he doesn't. He glares ferociously, his mouth twitching as though he wants to say something, but after a moment or two, the tension in his body breaks. With a sigh, he sits back again. "Don't presume to speak of things of which you have no knowledge. You're a poor excuse for a busybody."

She bristles, setting her glass down and sloshing champagne onto her fingertips. "And you deserve to spend the evening alone."

•

evy and jehan waltzing. whether or not they have music playing in the bg is optional

They're taking tea in Odin's kitchen, as they've taken to doing on quiet evenings, chatting about nothing and everything in the world.

"Oh, no," Evy says, shaking her head. "I can't play anything. And I can't carry a tune to save my life--just ask my brother."

"Everyone has some music in him," Jean insists. (How strange to realize that she can't quite think of him as Mr. Prouvaire anymore. It's nice to have friends here.) "Perhaps you haven't found the right instrument."

"I doubt it. I've an awful sense of rhythm; I couldn't even manage dancing lessons." She says it with the assumption that Jean might find it funny, but he looks at her with an expression that defies categorization. He's aghast and sorrowful all at once, all over the idea of her two left feet. She has to bite back a smile.

And then he stands up, holding out a hand to her; though he doesn't look quite at her, his words are insistent. "It's not difficult. Your dancing master must have been a poor one."

Evy stares at his hand; he doesn't actually expect her to dance with him, does he? They're in public, she's already admitted that she's horrible at it, and there's no music anyway. But for all his shyness, he doesn't back down from the gesture, and after a few moments' dithering, she sets her hand in his.

He does know what he's doing, humming a waltz under his breath as he arranges their hands. Perhaps the task keeps him from that nervous stammer of his, for he speaks evenly as he says, "Follow my lead. It's one, two, three--one, two, three--"

Even though she trods on his toes three times, he doesn't seem to mind; he insists on declaring her very promising when they sit back down.

•

Evy telling Annie about Egypt?

•

nothing rhymes with orange that's a quality prompt, right

•

if you're familiar enough with either of mine, something with like, book-finding help?

•

comments

Evy's booksmart as the day is long, and her main goals in The Mummy (acceptance from the Bembridge scholars, going to Hamunaptra and learning EVERYTHING) are indicative of that fact.
Power; Fire magic.

Personality;
There's that old stereotype about librarians, isn't there, that beneath the prim little updos and horn-rimmed glasses lies a tiger waiting to get out. A sexy tiger, in most cases--they always have to be sexy, don't they?

Well, that...is and isn't Evy. She's a well-bred young Englishwoman, not unacquainted with the necessity of slapping back indelicate men's hands with a leatherbound book. The film hints quietly at her lack of practical experience with the opposite sex--see the way she asks Rick, utterly innocent, why it is he kissed her in Cairo Prison--while presenting her as a fairly buttoned-up miss.

For all her emphasis on certain aspects of propriety, though, she's not really all that uptight. Uptight would require her to be anything but guileless and enthusiastic--and she's both those things in spades. When Evy loves something, she loves it with her whole heart, and she doesn't make any effort to hide that. See her describe her love of Egyptology to anyone who'll listen, something that's been a passion since childhood and the basis for her life's goals. On a riverboat floating down the Nile, she tells Rick (a man she met when he was on death row, one she's known under a week) about her hopes for finding the Book of the Living on their adventure, and there's no angle to it. She's just that excited to be on the trail and glad for a companion to share that excitement with.

And when she's caught up in the heat of adventure, her attention is fully there, not dwelling on what's quite proper at the moment. Evy ends up running about in a nightgown twice in The Mummy, once for a fairly extended period of time, her hair curling madly around her face rather than twisted carefully back. It's never commented on by anybody, least of all her. Sometimes there simply isn't time to put on real clothes, and given the choice, she'll take adventure over propriety.

She has a scientific mind, one not at all out of step with Enlightenment thought, and claims to prefer hard evidence and proper scholarship to legends. But legends are what turned her interest to Hamunaptra as a child, and when they turn out to be true, she accepts it readily. Some part of her is delighted to find that the fantastic is, in fact, observable.

She's also a cool head under pressure, or tries to be. Throughout the film, she's placed in genuinely frightening situations--who wants to wake up chained to an altar next to a desiccated corpse, with rats running along one's middle?--but she never gives into the paralysis of fear. Instead, she does small, brave things that ultimately help save everyone. When Imhotep is hellbent on killing her rescuers in a sandstorm of his own making, she kisses him until she's certain the others will survive. That's risking Imhotep's wrath against her person, but it works in her favour. Later, she might not have much defense against the corpse of Anck-su-namun, but she can dodge and run like hell--and recall the names of hieroglyphics, based on description alone, for the benefit of her brother at the same time.

Speaking of her brother, she's quite loyal to him. Jonathan Carnahan might be a drunk and a liar, not to mention a sneak-thief, but he's the only family she has, and she cares deeply for him. She'll get him out of jams if she can and indulge him in his attempts at treasure-hunting. He might not be the big brother any girl would want, but he's her big brother, and that's all she really needs. (Though it would be nice if he'd shape up and put his own intellect to use.)

Finally--perhaps most importantly--Evy is impetuous. When left with the film's equivalent of Pandora's box, the Book of the Dead, she doesn't dither about the ethics of opening it up and conducting an impromptu storytime. No, this Pandora jumps straight in, gives her reading, and inadvertently wakes a murderous mummy from the dead. Evy's learned something since then (primarily that harm can come from reading a book, after all), but there's no denying that willingness to leap before looking when really important things--like ancient knowledge--are involved.

comments

It is totally cool and more likely than not going to be necessary due to the nature of my schedule. Let me know if there was something more you wanted to do, and we can revisit that tag!

Hugging this character?: She prefers them to be politely friendly hugs and ideally from people she knows. Should be fine.

Giving this character a kiss?: On the cheek, in greeting? Go for it. We've seen from canon that kissing her full on the mouth without warning or even acquaintance to speak of isn't a total deal-breaker, but she's not likely to think well of you after.

Something more intimate?: Evy is 1) hoping that this thing with Rick is going to work out and 2) more acquainted with theory than practice, as with many aspects of her life. (Thankfully, the Bembridge scholars never asked about this.) So, probably not.

Relationships?: Evy is all for new friends and acquaintances! As far as more exclusive relationships go, point one of the previous question is extremely relevant here.

Punching this character (provided they can fight back): Please check in with me first.

Injury?: Much as she'd rather not admit it, she's a bit breakable.
