The springs are a bit surprising at first, aren't they? At home, we've an electrical one that cooks one side of the bread, and then you flip it over. I rather prefer what they've come up with here. Much less likely to burn your fingertips.

I've never tried making toast with a fork. It seems as though it might be more trouble than it's worth.
