I think that would be a fine idea, Mr. Longbottom. Our school secretary is a Fiona Gallagher; if you'd like to tell me what classes you're interested in, I'll be sure Miss Gallagher knows to add you to the roster.
The course schedule is here--and don't worry, I won't be offended if you'd rather not take my classes. I know that ancient Egypt isn't for everyone.
[Neville takes quite awhile to get back to her, because he spends some time pouring over his schedule, trying to decide his plan of attack. He's torn between being livid that Snape is teaching Herbology here and being glad. On one hand, if anyone in the world could make him miserable in his absolute favorite class, it would be Snape. On the other hand, he knows that he knows his stuff in Herbology, so if Snape wants to pick on him for petty things it's going to be obvious that's what he's doing, and he's going to have to do it in front of everyone else.]
I'd quite like to do Herbology, that was always my best subject. Plus I've got Growth, so it's practical. And I suppose I could really use Hand-to-Hand Combat. Beginner level.
[There's another pause between texts, though this one is shorter. He does want to take one of Ms. Carnahan's classes, if only because he figures she'd actually notice him missing if Snape makes a bid to off him like they'd tried to do in Hogwarts.]
And Latin. It ought to help in spellwork. Not that we can do that here.
[Well, that's certainly not the response she expects.]
Are you quite certain about that? I know your prior experiences with Professor Snape have been less than ideal.
I will be happy to have you in my Latin course, regardless. If you've already used some Latin in your previous studies, you'll be coming in with more prior knowledge than most of your peers.
[And don't worry, Neville, your hunch is right: Evy will be on it if you don't come to her class.]
That's alright. I'm done letting him push me around, and that's the class I need most here, no matter what he says.
[And Professor Snape had said plenty of things after that feed went private, some rather threatening things towards the end... but as ever, Neville doesn't speak up for himself, only for other people.]
Well some, I suppose, but I wasn't precisely a top student.
[Neville Longbottom Rule #1: never accept compliments, they will only lead to being a disappointment somewhere down the line.]

[AKA he'd like to spy on Snape because Harry and Hermione are being just the least cooperative.]

All right. The choice is yours--but if you do find you'd like to drop the course, please tell Miss Gallagher or me.
All I require in a student is intellectual curiosity and a willingness to work. There will be no consequences if you don't turn out to be a polyglot.

[A pause between texts. He has had some time to think more clearly.]
Thank you. I realize this is all a mess, and I'm sorry about that.
